SCIANT's employee at the World Finals
of the ACM-ICPC 2006
Nikola Momchev, a member of the 19th placed
software development team and a software
engineer at SCIANT, took a part at the annual
World Finals of the Association for Computing
Machinery (ACM) International Collegiate
Programming Contest.
Over 5,600 teams representing 1,733 universities
from 84 countries participated in the competition.
The three member team 22 year old students
from the Sofia University (Faculty of Mathematics
and Informatics), placed 19th out of the
83 teams reaching the final round of competition.
The ICPC is the oldest, largest, and most
prestigious competition in computing sciences
and engineering among the world's great
universities. The contest pits teams of
three university students against eight
or more complex, real-world problems, with
a grueling five-hour deadline. Huddled around
a single computer, competitors race against
the clock in a battle of logic, strategy
and mental endurance. Each incorrect solution
submitted is assessed a time penalty. The
team that solves the most problems in the
fewest attempts in the least cumulative
time is declared the winner.
